Web graphics for beginners
For those who would like to take creating their own webgraphics further without incurring cost there are a few free programs on the internet that will give you a good result.
Paint.Net
I can personally recommend Paint.Net, which I use almost daily for the past few years. This program “…started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the Microsoft Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple image and photo editor tool. It has been compared to other digital photo editing software packages such as Adobe® Photoshop®, Corel® Paint Shop Pro®, Microsoft Photo Editor, and The GIMP.” Source: Paint.net
The ‘poor man’s photoshop’ as I have heard it described, however there is nothing poor about the various editing features it provides.
Paint.Net Tutorials
For those who like to work with a tutorial rather than just trying first there are written tutorials in the forum and a video with some basics that accompanies this post.

Once downloaded, install the program and check the HELP on the toolbar for the forum and tutorials for more information and inspiration. With this program you can create, edit, scan, resize, add text, colour and much more. There is a whole array of editing tools which allow you to create an amazing variety of graphics, just let your imagination dictate your creations. Once you grasp a few basics the rest will follow. Astound your friends with some awesome handcrafted web graphics.
Enjoy the fun!
